We have awarded over $13,500 in scholarships, and award more than $5000 each year.
S.W.I.M.’s unique scholarship programs provide financial assistance to single mothers wishing to further their education in a post-secondary academic program. To date, S.W.I.M. has awarded over $13,500 in scholarships, and is committed to expanding our program’s applicants and winners.
Each year, a single mother is awarded the Strong Mothers Achieving Remarkable Triumph (S.M.A.R.T.) Scholarship, and is provided with the opportunity to better her own and her child/children’s lives. Recipients are celebrated during our annual London’s Got Talent fundraiser, an event bringing the community together to support and commemorate all single mothers. The S.M.A.R.T. Scholarship program awards 3 scholarships annually, each valued at $1,500 CAD. Applications are accepted annually. To apply, please read thoroughly the scholarship acceptance guidelines and application requirements, and prepare the required documents. See link for more details.

“I am honoured to be the recipient of the TD Scholarship award for single mothers in post-secondary schooling. As a single mother of three children, this award contributes to financial stability for myself and my family as I continue my studies. This award gives me the opportunity to focus on my studies in Psychotherapy and achieve grades that will help me reach my long-term educational goals of pursuing a doctorate. My passion is working with children and other single mothers, helping them gain skills to navigate the waves of life.
Being a single mother for the last twenty-one years has been the most challenging but most rewarding thing I have ever done. Pursuing an education while parenting has required a lot of sacrifice from my children and me. They have been my greatest cheerleaders, constant support and the driving force behind my determination. My faith, a cornerstone of my life, has been monumental. Without my faith, none of this would be possible.”

“I want to take this opportunity to thank Single Mothers In Womanhood, Ann Marie-Ricketts, and TD for this generous scholarship to support the pursuit of obtaining my undergraduate degree in Disability Studies. This scholarship has already positively impacted my and my son’s life and we are so grateful for this investment in our future. Learning that I was to receive this honor was a pivotal token for me to recognize the power I hold within me to achieve my dreams.”

“I am so honored and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the S.M.A.R.T. Scholarship. This award represents more than just financial support; it is a recognition of my hard work and dedication to my academic journey and my role as a mother. Balancing my education, work, and parenting has been challenging, and this scholarship will ease some of the financial burdens, allowing me to focus on achieving my academic goals and building a brighter future for my children. I am incredibly thankful to the Single Women in Motherhood Training Program, Ann-Marie Ricketts, and the generous sponsor, TD, for their belief in me. This support will empower me to continue pursuing my passion for psychology, and I look forward to giving back to my community and helping others in return. Thank you again for this recognition!”

“I am deeply honored to be selected as the recipient of the Family Law Group Continued Education Grant. As a mother of 2 young children and a newly enrolled graduate student at Queen’s University’s Immigration and Citizenship Law – balancing these roles has been challenging yet incredibly rewarding. This grant means more than financial support—it is a reminder of the importance of my education and the journey I am on. The funds will significantly ease the burden of purchasing course materials and supplies, allowing me to focus on my studies and my goals of contributing meaningfully to the field. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and motivated to continue striving for success.”

“This award will make a huge difference in my life. Sharing custody of my son in one city and attending school in another is incredibly costly. Some months, I’m honestly not sure how I manage. Winning this award is the difference between barely scraping by and achieving my dreams. Upon graduation, I will use my license to help others like me – people struggling against the system and looking for a legal professional who will fight right along with them. Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity.”
